Roosevelt Campus Network: Think 2040

Washington, DC

March 27, 2010

Roosevelt Campus Network's Think 2040 program will empower Millennials to take an active, visionary role in building the next generation of systems that underlie American life. Think 2040 begins with a series of conversations that will challenge Millennials to re-examine our current system and decide what reforms need to be made to achieve the Millennial vision for 2040 America. The themes, values, and priorities that emerge in these conversations will then be molded into a Blueprint for Millennial America.

Southern Student Empowerment Forum

Morehouse College, Executive Conference Center

November 6-7, 2009

SEF is an annual forum to give emerging Southern leaders the tools to influence local, state, and federal policy. In 2009, it will convene in heart of Atlanta, GA, at Morehouse College on November 6th and 7th. SEF is a partnership between several innovative programs, including the Roosevelt Institute Campus Network, Black Youth Vote, Young People First, and the Bonner Office of Community Service. Programming will include trainings in political communication, policy production, legislation analysis, social media, and organizing.

Black Youth Vote is a national grassroots coalition of organizations and individuals committed to increasing political and civic involvement among Black men and women aged 18-35. Founded by members of the National Coalition on Black Civic Participation, BYV evolved out of the combined efforts of coalition members to reach out and educate all segments of the youth population including high school, college, and incarcerated youth. The youth led organization seeks to empower Black youth by educating them about the political process and training them to identify issues and influence public policy through participation.

The Roosevelt Institute Campus Network is a non-profit, non-partisan national network of campus-based student think tanks. Its members conduct policy research on the pressing political issues facing our world, from environmental protection to equality under the law to trade and taxes. Roosevelt connects the fruits of that research to the policy process, delivering sound, progressive proposals to policymakers and advocacy groups at all levels of government as it organizes, trains, and empowers the next generation of progressive leaders.

Young People First aims to establish a powerful constituency of young people to advocate for long-term priorities in the United States. Its principal tool in tracking these goals is the “Future Preparedness Index” (FPI), which will empower younger generations to prevent the next cycle of hidden crises here in the US by providing a structure for consistently elevating long-term policy priorities in the political discourse. It trains college students and other youth to analyze how well proposed legislation prepares us for a prosperous, sustainable future.

Through the Southern Student Empowerment Forum, these programs will provide students with the tools to produce policy ideas for progressive change, define and promote their perspectives on today’s legislation, and organize their communities to better participate in local, state, and national policy discussions
